In 2007, something happened to shake the stable world of pet owners: a pet food recall happened in the U.S. which strongly exposed the contamination prevalent in pet food. The recall also dealt with dog food which came as a revelation and a shock to dog owners. In fact, there was an official dog food recall list issued by the American Veterinary Medical Association.

A common company’s name was mentioned in all the lists. It was Menu Foods which had 100 brands that produced cat and dog food. It was one of those brands known to have caused sickness in pets.

Some of the important names that came up in the American Veterinary Medical Association Dog Food Recall List are given below:

1. Alphabetically comprised, this list includes named such as; Americas Choice, Preferred Pets. The products were canned and contained, beef, and chicken.

2. Another brand is Authority, which also produced can foods mainly consisting of chicken and fish. Best Choice is another featured brand which supplied dog food with beef and chicken, in the canned form.

3. Award producing both pouched and canned dog food consisting stew, chicken, lamb and turkey is also included on the list.

4. Blue Buffalo Company offering canned food comprising of roasted chicken tuna and turkey also features on the list. Big bet and big red are two brands selling dog foods containing beef and chicken in the canned form, which were also on the list.

5. Bloom, which produced canned food containing lamb and turkey, also features on the list. Blue buffalo company is another brand selling canned food and dog treats containing, lamb, salmon, turkey and dog biscuit.

6. Cadillac selling dog foods made of beef in cans is also on the list. Canine caviar selling dog food containing beaver and turkey in canned form is also on the list.

7. Champion breed selling dog biscuits also features on the list.

8. Compliments the canned food brand selling dog foods containing chicken, stew, beef and lamb is also on the list.

9. The list also features co- op gold the canned food brand selling dog food with chicken, stew and beef.

Other brands on the list are Diamond pet foods, Eukanuba, Food lion, Giant companion, Grreat choice, Hanna ford, Harmony farms, Health diet , Hilli country , Heu vey , Iams, Laura lynn, Master’s choice, some Nestle products, Natural balance, Nutriplan, Nutromax, Nuturo natural chice, Ol’ roy, Perfect pals, royal canine, Winn dixie and your pet.

Most of these brands produce canned food mostly of the wet variety. Some of them deal with dry foods. The American Veterinary Medical Association has appealed to all the dog owners to avoid these brand until the issue relating to contamination is resolved. All dog owners are also advised to visit the websites of the companies featured on the list to find the dates of packaging that are advised not to be bought from the market.
